6 natural tips to repair chapped lips

It's the same thing every year, we find ourselves in winter, in less than 24 hours, with very dry and itchy lips. If you're fed up like us with having to fight to recover chapped lips made from lip balm so greasy it could be used in cooking oil, these tips are for you. In addition to being applicable to everyday life, they are very simple. As a bonus, our favorite balm selection. Ready for battle?

Why do we have chapped lips?

In the beginning, a powerful lack of hydration, so far we don't tell you anything. Just like the rest of our body, our lips are whiplashed in winter, a thermal shock that puts them in PLS. Result: they dry out, dehydrate and crack. The skin of our lips is very thin and therefore very sensitive to external aggressions such as the sun, the cold, the wind or UV rays.

Furthermore, the lips do not have oil glands that would allow them to maintain their softness and moisture on their own. They also do not secrete melanin, this skin pigment that makes you tan and protects against the sun's rays. Therefore, they are real victims who are completely vulnerable.

But that's no reason to give up! So neither one nor two, we arm ourselves with courage and we follow our steps step by step!

1 - Moisturize your interior

First thing to do and not least. 1.5 liters of water a day should do the trick. This will give a good base to properly moisturize your chapped lips.

2 - Avoid moistening your lips

We know you are doing it... Saliva is not very famous in terms of lip balm and in reality you make the situation worse than anything else. It attacks the protective layer of the lips and dries them out. Stop!

3 - Choosing the right lipstick

It's kind of the basics if you don't want to end up with lips frozen with dryness as if you've just come out of the desert. If you like to wear lipstick every day, take a good look at the composition and make sure that it contains moisturizing agents.

6 natural tips to fix chapped lips

No, your face scrub is not 2 in 1. Either you make it yourself (honey-sugar we know) or you can get one, preferably organic and natural, in stores. To you the very soft lips!

5 - Opt for natural

If you have motivated yourself to do your home care, there are many anti-chapped lip recipes. For the lazy ones, honey, shea butter or coconut oil will do the trick. For the others, here is what we could find on the Internet.

Rose petals and milk

Mix a few rose petals with raw milk for about two to three hours. After letting them steep, crush the petals until they turn into a paste. Apply this on your lips for about 20 minutes and then rinse it off with cold water.

Rose petals are nourishing because they contain vitamin E. The lactic acid in milk exfoliates, while its fats moisturize your lips.

Aloe vera

Cut the leaf in half and squeeze it. Store the gel in an airtight container placed in the refrigerator. Then you just need to apply it every day as a lip balm.

Aloe vera has been used for a long time as it helps in the wound healing process by reducing scarring. It also removes dead skin and promotes cell growth.

Green tea bags

Soak a green tea bag in hot water. Leave to cool slightly, then apply the sachet to the lips. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Repeat the operation every day.

Green tea contains antioxidants and tannins that hydrate parched skin. It also relieves the burning that can occur when one has chapped lips.

6 - Choosing the right lip balm

This will be your ally and therefore the last (and best) step for the end. Always have a lipstick on you. As soon as you feel that your lips are getting uncomfortable, moisturize them and do it all day long.

When buying, avoid paraffin, which tends to accentuate the phenomenon of dry lips… Take a good look at the composition of your lip balm before buying it. Finally, at the sea, in the mountains and even in town, choose a lip balm containing a minimum of SPF 15. UV rays are particularly harmful to the lips. Now that you have all the information, time to shop!
