Assisted procreation: Minister Carmant invites doctors to a committee

The Minister's office confirms that the clinics will not take over the assisted procreation services during negotiations.

Free treatment

This fall, the government announced the return of free in vitro fertilization (IVF), a program that had been cut under the liberals of Philippe Couillard.

What was to be good news is ultimately perceived as a huge obstacle for couples and women awaiting this type of treatment to start a family.

Since private clinics believe that the government does not reimburse them enough for the services they render to patients, they have put a brake on assisted procreation, while the conflict is adjusted.

According to Dr. Pierre Miron, founder of the Clinique Fetilys, the government grants $ 3,900 for the technical component to private centers, while it gives $ 4,770 for the same act to the public.

Doctors specialists and fertologists

The Twitter message of Minister Carmant specifies that the Federation of Doctors Specialists from Quebec (FMSQ), the Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Quebec as well as the Association of Fertologists of Quebec (AFQ) will be members of the committee he has just launched.

Ms. Braun would have preferred, however, that the clinics resume their service during the discussions. She fears that it lasts several more weeks.

The organization is even preparing to use legal tools, such as an injunction, to force clinics to offer in vitro fertilization.

The association is still given until January 31 before making a decision.
