Contraception: the new topical antibody that freezes cum

In 15 seconds, HCA glues all sperm together

To assess its effectiveness as a topical contraceptive, researchers tested HCA over a range of concentrations and under different physiologically relevant conditions in vitro. Mixed with sperm from healthy volunteers, in 15 seconds the HCA sticks together the spermatozoa which are thus immobilized. HCA does not cause any inflammation in laboratory tissue culture tests.

CONTRACEPTION: The new topical antibody that freezes sperm

HCA is a promising and accessible alternative for women who do not use current methods of contraception, for medical, practical or cultural reasons. HCA could thus have a significant impact on global health.

Currently in a phase I clinical trial, HCA also opens up the possibility of combining with other antibodies such as anti-HIV and anti-HSV antibodies for versatile prevention, both contraceptive and anti -IST.
