Covid-19. The mask will be compulsory indoors everywhere and for everyone

Faced with the relaxation of the barrier gestures observed in recent months, the government intends to tighten the screw so that the French resume the good habits that they seem to have lost. And this, in order to “save the end of year celebrations”, as government spokesman Gabriel Attal explained on Wednesday, November 24. "There is no fatality in the face of this Covid", insisted the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, this Thursday, November 25, during a press conference, to justify the new measures intended to limit the spread of the virus. It will again be used in all closed places, even those subject to the health pass.

“We consider today that we can overcome this wave without deploying more restrictive tools with the cards we have in hand”, continued the Minister of Health. And the health pass has been, since the summer, one of the most important means in the face of the pandemic, according to the authorities.

He mentioned the barrier gestures, the wearing of the mask but also the ventilation measures for closed places as "easy to apply measures". "We must therefore collectively pull ourselves together", hammered Olivier Véran, referring to "invaluable tools in not spreading the Covid".

In places subject to the sanitary pass

The mask has been gradually removed, especially between vaccinated people. But “it must be put back”, now believes the Minister of Health. Whether for vaccinated or unvaccinated people, the protective mask will again be required as soon as you enter an enclosed place.

And places subject to the health pass will not serve as an exception. It will also be compulsory for people who go to cinemas, concert halls, restaurants or even major events to wear the mask, even if they have presented their QR code at the entrance.

These new stricter rules will be enshrined in a decree “from this [Friday] November 26”, announced Olivier Véran.

At outdoor gatherings with a high concentration of people

But wearing the mask won't stop at indoor venues. Outdoor gatherings may also be subject to the wearing of a mask, according to the will of the departmental authorities.

Covid: do you understand that the government is loosening the screws while Omicron is still circulating? Debate!

"The prefects will also be empowered department by department to make it compulsory to wear a mask outdoors for events such as Christmas markets or even flea markets," said Olivier Véran.
