OK, it's not the most glamorous gift, but even if you have to wear a mask, why not choose one that is effective, comfortable to wear and customizable? This is what the Parisian start-up R-Pur offers with FiiT, its latest model.

Until December 24, Clubic opens a box of its 2021 Advent calendar for you every day: the opportunity to discover unusual or practical gadgets, gift ideas, for yourself or for your loved ones.

R-Pur isn't exactly new to face masks. The company has been designing prototypes since 2016, and there was no question of COVID 19 at the start: it was about offering effective protection against urban pollution.

Over the years, three models have been designed for cyclists, athletes and motorcyclists. They are joined at the end of the year by FiiT, more specifically intended for pedestrians.

With less face coverage and a more discreet attachment, FiiT becomes an ideal urban companion. Like its predecessors, it has a valve that evacuates the air breathed in and reduces the production of fog. This can be blocked if the need arises (when traveling by plane, for example).

Eight-layer filter

The FiiT mask consists of an outer surface, an inner layer, fasteners and decorative rivets. If the predefined configurations do not suit you, nothing prevents you from creating the model that suits you by drawing from the catalog made available on the site. Be careful though, the bill can *climb quickly if you get caught up in the game. The base price, already high (99 €) quickly reaches 130 €, even 150 €.

Anyway, the focus has been on filtering efficiency. Like the Nano masks, FiiT uses a filter ten times more efficient than the FFP-3 filtering standard, currently the strictest in existence. The 0.05 micron nanoparticles are thus stopped by the eight layers making up the patented filter.

Doesn't that speak to you? Simply remember that gases, viruses, bacteria, fine particles (diesel, for example) are stopped. In addition, R-Pur masks are equipped with a face seal offering 99.97% sealing. In comparison, a “barrier” mask as it was defined at the start of the pandemic displays a maximum seal of 30%…

The removable filter must be changed after five to ten weeks of use. R-Pur has developed an application indicating when to replace it according to the frequency of use. To do this, all you have to do is answer a few questions about your travel habits, then scan the QR code accompanying the filter.

Mobile app

A wear counter, updated according to the information provided, will tell you when to replace the filter. This count is not its only interest: the application also provides a lot of information on air quality according to geographical location.

In use, R-Pur goggles are very convincing. They reduce the feeling of respiratory discomfort caused by FFP-2 type masks. Their filtering power is such that we were surprised by the absence of odors perceived in certain environments that are nevertheless rich in scents (public transport for example)…

To buy, such a mask can seem expensive. It's normal: it is! But in view of the comfort and security it provides, we did not hesitate to warmly recommend it to those around us.

Or so…

OmniGuard, created by high-end prop designer Moshi, is a mask with replaceable filters. Less efficient than FiiT, it has the advantage of being lighter and cheaper. It is still more effective than a disposable mask or a mask made of traditional fabric.
