Foundation or concealer first? Highlighter or setting powder? Follow the leader !

The back of a foundation bottle can tell you how to apply the product to your face, but in no case does it tell you at what point in your beauty routine this step should take place!

The order in which makeup products are applied is a tricky subject…not least because there are differing opinions as to which product should land on the face first. If you're tired of wondering if you're doing things in the right order, follow the little guide we just made after much research and more interviews with professional makeup artists including Tom Sapin, MAC Cosmetics Ambassador and Hector Espinal, Fenty Beauty Ambassador (and yes, we have surrounded ourselves with the best!)

1- SKINCARE How many times have you been told that it is important to properly prepare the skin before putting on makeup? This is nothing out of the ordinary! Although the products applied will vary depending on each woman's skin type and needs, a skin care routine helps makeup adhere better to the skin, reduces the risk of stripping, and can even help your skin look more radiant. We start by applying a moisturizer and a lip balm (yes, before the lipstick). We will bet on a richer cream or a serum if we have very dry skin.

2- FOUNDATION BASE According to Hector, Fenty Beauty's make-up artist, the use of a foundation base is rather optional but necessary to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Oily skin will need a mattifying primer to avoid the shiny effect after application of the foundation. Dry skin will prefer a moisturizing base so that the skin is nourished throughout the day.

3- EYE BEAUTY We all tend to rush to apply foundation directly after applying base. But we have it all wrong! YouTubers are right to start with eye and eyebrow makeup first… simply because you can still clean the skin when, for example, eye shadow powder falls on your face! Thus, we do not ruin all the work of the complexion.

4- FOUNDATION Once the eyeshadow has been applied, we move on to the complexion step. We prefer the liquid foundation that is applied in thin layers evenly on the face and neck.

5- CONCEALER Tom Sapin told us: “We apply the concealer AFTER the foundation…because the foundation is a kind of second skin that smooths the face. The concealer intervenes afterwards to correct certain areas more precisely”.

6- BLUSH / TANNING POWDER / HIGHLIGHTER Once the complexion has been unified with the complexion products, don't forget the touch of color on the cheeks and forehead to bring a healthy glow. If you make a mistake, just correct with your beauty blender or your brush already impregnated with foundation...

7- LIPS If you decide to wear gloss, reverse it and do step 8 first. Otherwise, know that the lipstick applies at this time because it too must be fixed.

8- TRANSLUCENT POWDER AND FIXING SPRAY You can use one or the other… or both! These products are indeed designed to prolong the duration of your makeup and maintain its radiance throughout the day. And a little tip: you shouldn't apply the fixing spray right after finishing your beauty treatment, but rather just when you're about to leave.
