Women should not wear a mask when giving birth "Childbirth: women deserve better" - Marie-Hélène Lahaye's book

Since the first confinement, the testimonies of women who had to give birth while wearing a mask have accumulated and resembled each other.

Imposing a mask on a woman who gives birth to her child is almost unbelievable when you know the importance of breathing during childbirth. Childbirth represents a physical effort comparable to that of a marathon or a high-level sport, for very many hours. It is therefore paradoxical to impose such a constraint on them when any cyclist can do without a mask for a bike ride of a few minutes.

In France, for several months, the collective Stop aux Violences Obstétricales et Gynecologiques has been mobilizing against the deterioration of childbirth conditions and the explosion of obstetric violence linked to the Covid 19 pandemic: denunciation in the media, direct questioning of the Minister of Health on television, impulse of parliamentary questions, mobilization of the Women's Foundation for a complaint to the Defender of Rights, etc. This mobilization pays off since in a few weeks, the number of maternity wards that ask women to wear a mask has gone from 80% to 65%.
