Charlie Paille and summer lingerie

1/3

Charlie Paille's lingerie is of a refinement reminiscent of chic European underwear brands. So much so that it is hard to believe that the young woman does everything, all alone, in her Montreal apartment, from the creation of the pattern to the finish.

Originally from Shawinigan, Charlie Paille studied fashion design at LaSalle College from 2007 to 2009. Once she graduated, she finally answered the call of modeling. Agencies had tried to recruit her a few times. Why not ? said the young woman, who quickly settled in New York, from where she traveled to Los Angeles, Miami, Paris, London, Milan, Singapore and Hong Kong, among others.

It hasn't been years of rest or “healthy weight,” but she loved the experience and has no regrets. She also sees with a very good eye the evolution of the fashion world towards a more inclusive image. For now, she offers sizes small, medium and large on her website, but also does custom-made on demand.

“I love when my clients send me photos of themselves wearing my lingerie, in private. I can see how it feels on all kinds of bodies. But for now, the 30-year-old is her own muse, a practical and economical choice that has become her signature over time. It is she who appears in all the photos of her collections.

Des nouvelles de la mode locale

Charlie created a first bralette when he returned to Quebec in 2015, for a friend who owned a fashion boutique in Shawinigan. This was the beginning of her brand, which was then built gradually, one set or a small collection at a time, according to the designer's inspiration and textile discoveries.

“I've always liked lingerie, even when I didn't really wear any myself,” she tells us at the park where we met. “It can make the person wearing it feel beautiful and good, even if they don't show it. »

Most of Charlie Paille's boudoir creations are based on lace unearthed most often in a boutique on rue Saint-Hubert. This is the case, for example, of the Daisy set, in the new Nolita spring collection, which includes a bustier, panties and garter belt cut in a pretty pink, yellow and orange floral mesh fabric. The Zoé, with its very feminine ruffles, highlights a beautiful red lace. We also love the heart motif of the black trio Marilou, the small gold-on-black polka dots of Chantal and the yellow and blue 3D flowers of the elegant bralette/panty duo Stéphanie. To be honest, the entire collection, with its well-thought-out details and originality, caught our eye!

MYEL's Odyssey

1/3

Jewelry designer Myriam Élie launches her collection inspired by the ocean and aquatic beauties. Imagined and designed in the fall of 2019, the Odyssée pieces have only recently been produced. “We've been very discreet over the past year,” explains the founder of MYEL, who nevertheless strongly felt the support of Quebecers for buying local and small independent businesses.

With its marine knots and large baroque freshwater pearls, the new collection of this high-end jewelry store combines elegance and simplicity with more organic shapes. The Calypso moves away from the classic pearl necklace with perfectly round beads. It is made of flat mother-of-pearl rather than spherical. Calypso earrings are offered in 14k yellow gold and silver, like many other Odyssey jewels. Their pearls, which hang at the end of a delicate chain attached to a knot, are even more irregular and unique.

Myriam Élie is proud to say that all of the beautiful wedding rings that are fashioned in her name are now cast in Fairmined gold. Gemstones are all ethically sourced and the company strives for the greatest possible transparency in everything it does.

MAR in ultra-luxurious ready-to-wear

1/4

Maria Karimi's creations are not within everyone's reach. Specializing in very high-end products, the designer has mainly made bespoke products since the beginning of her (young) career, for business people and personalities from the artistic world. Actress and director Marianne Farley wore one of her dresses to the Oscars in 2019. Karine Vanasse is also a regular. But recent circumstances have forced the fashion house to expand its offering and launch a first collection of ready-to-wear clothing for men and women. This includes unisex pieces, always luxurious, durable and made in the brand's Montreal workshops. But ready-to-wear does not mean affordable. We stay in very noble materials such as super fine Italian linen and cotton, silk, seersucker, etc. At MAR, elegance is often enhanced with playful details, whether in the shape (and color) of the patch pocket on a shirt or in the red stitching on high-waisted jeans. If only to discover a little-known Quebec talent, the MAR site deserves some attention, to dream a little.
