Created in 1868 on a libretto of the famous tandem Barbier et Carré, Hamlet.... d'Ambroise Thomas contributes, with cute, to perpetuate the posterity of this ancient Prize of Rome. The book is filled with French musicologists and is the joy of 19th century French "grand opera" enthusiasts. Ambroise Thomas never claimed to revolutionize the history of music, but rather to seduce his audience. Is this the cause of the misunderstanding with the faculty? His Hamlet...., however, remains faithful to the Shakespearean spirit and immediately met a great success. Originally written for tenor, the title role was redecorated to the dimensions of baritone Jean-Baptiste Faure, a pertussis of 19th-century lyrical art. The result is an opera that reserves some moments of grace, such as the duo Hamlet....-Ophelia, soprano with colorature accents. Hailed in 1868 as the most beautiful opera since Meyerbeer or Halévy, the powder trail will soon be around the musical microcosm. She took over Auber's succession to Ambroise Thomas, head of the Conservatoire de Paris. Among the grumbles, the play today fascinates by its universality, and the music of Thomas, directed by the very talented Jacques Lacombe, will, without "the shadow of a doubt", appear spectres.
