Portraits sculpted in lipstick, the new unidentified beauty object Lady Gaga Calvin Klein Givenchy John Galliano Justin Bieber Mariah Carey Amber Rose

There are many things you can do with lipstick, like drawing a glamorous or dark mouth, or even enhancing the color of your cheekbones. But making them into mini-sculptures in tribute to celebrities, we had never thought of that before.

However, this is the idea that May Sum, a Chinese artist based in Hong Kong, had. Her thing is to portray stars and icons. They all go there, from Lady Gaga to Audrey Hepburn, from Lady Di to Anna Wintour. But to do this, she uses neither pencil nor brush. Her own tool is... lipstick.

May Sum is a sculptor and has made the small tube her working tool. Instead of shaping clay or terracotta, it is the lipstick that she cuts, models, to bring out the traits of known personalities. These creations, the Chinese artist sells them on Etsy, under the Wahahafactory profile. We thus find a multitude of these tiny fragile sculptures. Cost of the artwork? 472 euros. A tidy sum for a tube of lipstick, sorry, a unique creation (and after the cakes in the shape of stars, we thought we had seen everything).

According to the presentation of the seller, each sculpture requires 12 hours of work, and the most demanding can extend over a week. When placing the order, choose the brand of your lipstick (Yves Saint Laurent, Estée Lauder, MAC, Nars...), the shade of your choice. You can also decide, rather than buying the bust of a celebrity, to have your portrait taken.

To do this, all you have to do is send the artist a high-resolution photo of yourself. It is then necessary to wait 2 weeks, the time of the manufacture, then the expedition.

The artist also gives advice for the conservation of this object, which we imagine to be fragile. It is therefore advisable to keep it at a temperature of 17 to 25°C, to keep it away from the fridge and strong lights, otherwise the work of art risks turning into a soup.
