Reese Witherspoon's beauty routine: 13 minutes to have beautiful skin after 40

Radiant complexion, flawless skin, radiant hair... Reese Witherspoon maintains Hollywood glamor on screen and on the red carpet. To achieve this, the 45-year-old actress follows a rigorous beauty routine revealed in an interview for the American magazine Harper's Bazaar.

The actress notably confided in her recent skin problems: dry skin and hyperpigmentation. “My skin texture has changed a bit, it's a bit drier. I have definitely been fighting dark spots since pregnancy,” reveals the mother of three. “I'm looking for really effective products to treat them. Especially in summer: they become darker because they appear with the heat.

Cleanse, hydrate, protect

In everyday life, Reese Witherspoon never breaks her three golden rules: remove makeup, moisturize her skin and protect it from the sun. “I didn't realize how strict it was. I have a whole process. One day, I said to myself: “Oh, it’s been a good 13 minutes”, she says. Still, this skincare ritual turns out to be quite simple and minimalistic: "I just make sure to cleanse and wash my face twice a day, especially on days when I'm wearing heavy makeup, moisturize it and apply all the necessary serums, because they really make a big difference.”

Small everyday gestures that are innocuous but which prove to be of crucial importance as you age, according to the actress: "It really accumulates: what you do to your skin at 18 shows on your face at 40." Good habits that she wants to pass on to her daughter, Ava, 22, who is already well experienced in cosmetics. “Ava loves beauty so much. She's always loved it, even as a little girl. She watches YouTube videos and knows how to wear makeup so well. So it's a lot of fun to watch her do it. She teaches me a lot of stuff. She has a different skin type than mine, so she likes completely different products.”

A "healthy" lifestyle and some "cheat meals"

In the spotlight, Reese Witherspoon is always careful to 'moisturize' her skin well and 'make sure it's really smooth in texture' because 'it's really important for the base under makeup, as the cameras are so HD now that there is nowhere to hide.”

Of all the iconic characters she's portrayed over the years, the actress says she feels particularly close, when it comes to "clean" beauty, to Madeline Mackenzie, her character in Big Little Lies, because "she invests a lot in skincare and is also very passionate about the environment.”

The rest of the time, the actress relies on a healthy and balanced lifestyle. “I think it all goes together, you know. Get enough sleep, eat well,” she says. With a few exceptions: "One day a week, I have my cheat meal day, where I eat as many cakes and pizzas as I want, but I try to maintain a fairly healthy lifestyle the rest of the weather. Exercising helps a lot, and drinking lots of water too. I try not to drink too much coffee. The base, without the excesses.
