The art of applying matte lipstick

Very soft lips to apply your matte lipstick

More than any other product, matte lipstick abhors dead skin. On chapped lips, its application is totally inadvisable under penalty of a really unsightly result. So, before putting it down, prepare your lips. How ? By erasing them. A little fine-grained face scrub or a homemade exfoliant made with sugar and honey (or vegetable oil) is perfect for this task. Rub gently, rinse with warm water and apply a layer of moisturizing balm. To remove excess care, simply bite into a tissue. Your lips are ready for what's next!

Apply matte lipstick like a pro

Rid of dead skin, it's time for your lips to experience the sweet experience of matte lipstick. And applying it is a little different than putting on a glossy lipstick. We bring a lip pencil of the same shade as her lipstick or better yet, transparent.

L'art d'appliquer un rouge à lèvres mat

We start by drawing the outline of her mouth with the lip pencil. This step serves to create a bulwark against overflowing lipstick. Then pencil your lips with the pencil to enhance the color naturally.

Two techniques then. The most classic is to apply the matte lipstick directly using the stick (the stick) starting from the heart of the lips and stretching to the corners. The finish is then very matte. For an effect that our Anglo-Saxon neighbors call "fuzzy" or blurry, apply lipstick with your finger without being really precise. To do this, just tap the material from the center of the lips to the ends.

A long-lasting matte lipstick

Matte lipstick naturally lasts longer than its satin counterpart. But it is not foolproof! You can maximize its hold by applying a little concealer around your mouth before applying it. This will brighten your face, but also prevent lipstick from smudging. Then, once the lipstick is applied, do not hesitate to apply a very thin layer of transparent powder on your lips. It will fix the pigments more.

To make touch-ups during the day, after lunch for example, start by covering your lips with a thin layer of moisturizing lip balm. Matte lipstick can indeed tend to dry out the lips. Regular hydration is therefore essential. Then, apply your lipstick.

When evening comes, don't forget to remove make-up from your lips. As you will see, matte lipstick sometimes resists. A make-up remover oil, oilier than a conventional make-up remover, is therefore preferably used to remove make-up AND moisturise.
