The crazy story of the kidnapping of the Haribo dog in Faches-Thumesnil

This is a case that caused a stir on social networks. An individual forced his way into the home of Maxime Deraed on January 10, 2022 in Faches-Thumesnil, near Lille. After a few minutes of altercation, he seized the victim's dog to flee. A despicable act that mobilized many Internet users in the search for the animal.

An abduction

It is 2 p.m. in Faches-Thumesnil, Monday January 10, 2022, when someone knocks on the door. Maxime Deraed, motor handicapped walks towards the door to open and falls on a man, wearing a cap, glasses and a mask on his face. He enters the house by force, causing Maxime to lose his balance.

“The individual pushed Maxime and forced him to climb the stairs,” explains Alexandre, his brother. “Because of a brain tumor that he has had for a long time, my brother is sensitive to imbalance. After trying to extort money, the intruder seizes the Bolognese, Maxime Deraed's precious friend, and flees, under the eyes of a neighbor.

But where did Haribo go?

After this incident, the first searches in the neighborhood took place. The famous neighbor who witnessed the scene was able to provide some clues, including the color of the vehicle and part of its license plate. At the same time Florent, friend of the family, decides to launch a call for witnesses on social networks.

The message soliciting the help of Internet users quickly took on significant proportions. “Many were outraged to see what bad people can do. The fact of having attacked an animal touched the sensitivity of people, ”says Alexandre.

On Twitter, the share counter (retweets) is panicking. More than 1,000 people passed on the information to their circle of subscribers. Some add their feeling of indignation, others summarize the information collected. All invite to contact the author of the tweet to give any information.

A happy ending

The family, affected by this act of theft and in particular because of the attack, decided to file a complaint. During this time, several rounds and the pursuit of tracks came to nothing: "We had been informed of the presence of a dog that looked like ours near the Seclin activity area, but without success..."

It is finally the call of the police that will give hope to the family. “A lady found a dog, near a bakery in Marquette-lez-Lille, it looked like an ad she had seen on social networks”, confirm the authorities.

After being entrusted to a veterinarian, Haribo received a visit from his master, immediately recognized his voice and began, despite being very tired, to bark with all his might. “We were all relieved immediately. He was safe and sound,” admits Alexandre.

The power of social networks

His heart still full of emotions, Alexandre is very grateful. Faced with the mobilization that took place before his eyes: “I suspected that social networks are sometimes incredible for this kind of story. »

How the dog was able to free itself from the grip of its captor, no one knows for the moment. “Maybe the pressure on social media led the thief to get rid of Haribo? Impossible to know, but we really wanted to thank all the people who shared and participated in the resolution of this story. »
