This woman is a fake doctor | The Journal of Montreal

A young woman who has no medical training has managed to pass herself off as a doctor and obtain internships in clinics in the greater Montreal area, warns the College of Physicians.

“We could make a movie with her! says Marc Legault, head of investigations into illegal practice and usurpation of title at the College.

Nine statements of offense were issued against Annie Ung, 28, for claiming to be a doctor. According to court documents, his ride would have started in November 2019. It is not impossible that it will continue until today, warns Mr. Legault.

Photo taken from FacebookOn March 31, she announces her “COVID-19 vaccination for health professionals”. She adds that if people have questions, they can contact her.

But the latter wants to be reassuring. At no time would she have provided care to patients.

"We never had the indication that she met sick people [...] or that she could have put the public in danger", he specifies, without being able to go into details because of the current investigation.

Lab coat and stethoscope

On her Facebook profile and her LinkedIn page, we see Annie Ung posing with a stethoscope. Several publications seem to show that she is indeed a doctor.

She would have taken the audacity to “show up in a hospital setting with a medical uniform, a white lab coat and a stethoscope, and carry out consultations”, writes the College of Physicians, adding that she has “no medical training relevant".

The complaint against the young woman would have been formulated at the beginning of the year, by a health professional who found certain actions suspicious.

Medical Secretary

At the En Route Medical Clinic, where Annie Ung presents herself on LinkedIn as "chief clinical officer", the owner, Chau Nguyen, assures that she only trained as a medical secretary for two days, several years ago.

"She didn't know anything," recalls Ms. Nguyen, who did not seek to hire her afterwards.

At the Crowley Medical Clinic, where Ms. Ung claims to be “clinical assistant director”, it is assured that she has never worked on site and we are surprised to see ourselves associated with her.

The owner pharmacist, Cam Uyen Mai Ba, who works at the clinic, nevertheless recalls a visit when she accompanied a relative to a medical appointment. She then introduced herself as a doctor and resident at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital.

The Integrated University Health and Social Services Center of Est-de-l'Île-de-Montréal confirms that this woman does not practice at this establishment.

"A denunciation to the College of Physicians of Quebec was actually made after the lady had tried to register for an internship in our establishment", was limited to commenting the spokesperson, Christian Merciari.

Annie Ung, who is being asked for $67,500 by the College of Physicians, is due to appear on August 26. She did not call Le Journal back.
