World AIDS Day: buy a MAC lipstick to get involved!

It's been 27 years since the must-have make-up brand MAC launched its MAC VIVA GLAM program, at the height of the AIDS epidemic, to help people affected by HIV. Created in 1994, the VIVA GLAM lipstick then became the banner of this commitment, displaying its tube and its blue grapes during a campaign for a good cause.

But more than the audacious look of its red, it was the brand's unusually generous initiative that was most talked about at the time: MAC donated not part but the entire purchase price of its now cult product to the MAC AIDS Fund, a fund set up (that same year) to support people of all ages, races and genders affected by AIDS and to provide financial support to organizations working in regions and with disadvantaged populations.

A pioneer in the financing of the fight against HIV, the MAC brand is once again renewing its commitment today with a collaboration that is intended to be a "tribute to the artistic and philanthropic heritage of Keith Haring", a symbolist artist who worked to awaken the awareness of the disease through his art and who died of AIDS-related complications in 1990.

To celebrate 27 years of donations which have already raised more than $500,000,000 (i.e. €441,357,500) worldwide, Mac is launching three special editions of its flagship Viva Glam lipsticks in 2021, whose shades highlight the palette of primary colors dear to Keith Haring (red, yellow and blue) and whose tubes are decorated with various works by the artist. The shades Red Haring (red) and Canal blue (blue) are revealed in a matte finish while the shade St. Mark Yellow (yellow) deposits a pearly finish on the lips.
