Zara Beauty: the secrets of the huge makeup range launched by Zara

Making fashion accessible has been Zara's niche for several years, the Spanish fashion brand that needs no introduction. If the clothes are sold all over the world, the fast-fashion brand belonging to the huge Inditex group is launching a new bet, and not the least: that of make-up. With modern and minimalist packaging, a wide range of colors and products (from lipstick to blush and eyeshadow palette), a vegan formula and an attractive price, Zara Beauty aims to democratize the codes haute couture beauty. To assume such an ambition, the brand called on a make-up artist recognized in the industry: Diane Kendal. The one who signed many looks backstage at Fashion Week is now Artistic Director of this new project. Interview.

SHE. Tell us about the start of your collaboration with Zara Beauty? Diane Kendal. When Zara first approached me, I was very excited to partner with a brand that wanted to make responsible, refillable beauty products accessible to everyone. The brand wanted to be uncompromising on the quality of ingredients and formulas, it was also keen to offer a very wide range of colors. I was very honored to be able to participate in this adventure! SHE. How did you work on this collection which was designed during a very particular period? Diane Kendal. A real challenge, from a distance! We spent some time chatting on Zoom. The development teams at Zara and those at Baron & Baron have been very diligent in ensuring that we have a wide range of samples in order to have a clear and concise point of view. SHE. What were your inspirations for creating the makeup? Diane Kendal. I was inspired by nature, street culture and art. SHE. There are a lot of products in this launch, which ones do you think stand out? Diane Kendal. Personally, my favorites in the collection are the Stiletto lipstick and the eyeshadow duos. SHE. At a time when there are many make-up brands, what sets Zara Beauty apart? Diane Kendal. What makes Zara Beauty unique is its ability to reach a wide range of consumers and create products that are accessible to everyone, while being clean, vegan and ethical.

I think makeup has become a form of self-expression and entertainment that anyone can participate in. Which, in my opinion, represents the future of beauty. SHE. How do you imagine the future of Zara Beauty and beauty? Diane Kendal. The range will evolve, foundation and mascaras will arrive in the coming months. I think the future of beauty is about individualism and inclusion. There is no beauty, only beauties.
