Mouthwash with oil?! All about oil pulling

The latest trends are sometimes surprising… but they are often inspired by ancestral techniques, in the end. This is the case of the mouth detox known as Oil Pulling, a new fad of the stars, from British rapper Tinie Tempah to Gwyneth Paltrow, always on the lookout for natural care. If sesame oil mouthwashes have been well known for a very long time in Ayurvedic medicine for oral hygiene and health, we have recently discovered them in the West, most often with coconut or sesame oil. . Indeed, coconut oil, rich in lauric acid, is known for its antibacterial properties. It cleanses the mouth, reduces dental plaque, purifies the breath and even whitens the teeth.

Something to get your mouth watering?

Mouthwashes with oil offer in-depth oral hygiene, much more complete than simple brushing, but also a preventive care for the whole body widely recommended by Ayurveda, a holistic medicine found from India to Asia. In fact, when you brush your teeth, you generally only reach 60% of the surface of the teeth and 10% of the entire oral cavity. However, in it live an average of 10 billion micro-organisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa).

A mouthwash is like a detox able to eliminate harmful elements and micro-organisms, even having positive effects throughout the body! Knowing that inflammation of the gums can cause intestinal problems, this simple mouthwash could for example reactivate the meridians (energy flows) of the body and improve arthritis caused by the deposit of bacteria around the joints just as there are links between inflamed teeth and gums and lung and respiratory tract infections.
